South African students wishing to study in 2026 in the fields listed below are invited to apply for the Sanlam Bursary.

Because of this, Sanlam provide bursaries to scholars who have signed up to study actuarial science in 2026 as well as to existing students who are enrolled in their first, second, or third year of study.

Requirements for Candidates

Undergraduate Students

Current first-, second-, or third-year full-time actuarial science students (only citizens of South Africa). You are exactly what we are seeking for if you exhibit academic aptitude and a drive for success.
Students who are leaving school with plans to pursue actuarial science in 2026.

Sanlam are searching for someone who is a math wiz, enjoys a good challenge by working through challenging problems, and is prepared to stay focused and disciplined through years of training and study.

Undergraduate studies

  1. Academic results:
    • Full academic transcripts
    • Proof of registration and/or Fee Statement
    • Copy of matric certificate
  2. Copy of ID
  3. Comprehensive CV focusing on Academics, Extra-mural activities and Leadership skills
  4. A motivation to support your application that answers the following questions:
    • In your own words, can you describe what an actuary does?
    • Why do you want to study actuarial science?
    • Why do you believe you have what it takes to become an actuary?
    • Why should Sanlam choose you to be a bursary holder?
    • If you are not successful at becoming an actuary, what other career paths are you considering?

School leaving learners who intend to study Actuarial Science in 2026

  1. Academic results:
    • Final Grade 11 results/report
    • Grade 12 mid-year results
    • NBT results (if available)
  2. Final grade 12 results may be used as determining factor
  3. An above 90% score in Mathematics and an overall A aggregate
  4. Comprehensive CV focussing on academics, extra-mural activities and leadership skills
  5. A motivation to support your application that answers the following questions:
    • In your own words, can you describe what an actuary does?
    • Why do you want to study actuarial science?
    • Why do you believe you have what it takes to become an actuary?
    • Why should Sanlam choose you to be a bursary holder?
    • If you are not successful at becoming an actuary, what other career paths are you considering?
